Nepal's Ministry of Health recorded its first death from the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday.

The ministry said that a 29-year-old woman died of the novel coronavirus.

She said she gave birth on 8 May and was hospitalized and was recently discharged, and later tested positive for the virus.

The hospital where the woman gave birth was then placed under lockdown, and the village where she lived was placed as part of measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the country.

The total number of coronovirus cases in Nepal reached 281, while so far 36 patients have been cured in the country.

On 6 May, the government extended the nationwide lockout until 18 May and relaxed restrictions for commercial and farming activities.

Nepal went into lockdown on 24 March, initially effective until 7 May.

Since originating in China last December, the disease caused by Corvovirus COVID-19 has spread to 188 countries and regions around the world. Europe and America are currently the most affected regions.

According to data compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University, the epidemic has killed more than 310,500 people, with total infections exceeding 4.61 million, while more than 1.66 million have recovered from the disease.
